The days are shorter, it's getting darker quicker, the days are becoming cold. I love a few things about this season.

1. It's not as cold as Winter
2. Out come the cosy clothes
3. Cosy nights by the heater
4. Cups of tea
5. Comforting morning coffee
6. Hot cross buns
7. A bigger motivation to stitch
8. Comforting stews

We not long ago celebrated Easter. To me it felt like we had just celebrated Santa coming down the chimney. My two girls woke up early excitedly with their Easter baskets in hand waiting to go downstairs for their Easter egg hunt. To their delight the Easter bunny sure had visited, so chocolate was indeed consumed for Breakfast.
My favourite hot cross buns are the mocha ones from my local bakery bakers delight. A mix of chocolate and coffee, mmmm two of my favourite things. They always bake them the week of Easter, so I made sure to get myself a pack which I had every morning for breakfast that week. Now I have to wait a whole year to get them again. To those who celebrate I hope you all had a lovely Easter too.

I have had a emotional few months. I lost my beautiful dog Matilda in early March. She was 14 years old but she was my baby and a much loved member of our family. She was quite sick in the end so it was a difficult decision to let her go. One that we made for her so she wouldn't suffer any more. I miss her dearly. Just the little things like hanging out the washing, she used to sit with me in the sun. Her feeding times, the company of a night. I have to look back on the wonderful memories we had together though. Especially the memories I have of her when she was a puppy, I rescued her from a dog shelter and we were the best of friends. It has been a very upsetting time for us all.

We are also in the middle of moving house, it's time for a bigger house now for my husband and I and the girls. It's an exciting time but also an emotional one and a very time consuming one packing up etc...but our new house is beautiful and I am so very excited to move in. Memories will always be remembered in my old house of course.
Losing Matilda and how busy it was with getting ready to sell our house entailed the start of the year with my stitching put on hold, I lost my motivation and didn't feel up to it at all even though I know it is very good therapy and has helped me through things before. It was frustrating though because I knew my baby sampler wasn't long off being finished. It doesn't help though with how much I am hating this backstitching!! I normally love back stitch but I HATE back stithcing this pattern. It is quite a challenge and hard to keep motivated. I have had a many few moments of being completely frustrated by it haha. My daughter is lucky she is loved so much, haha!
But of course I have kept up with it and I would like to show you what I am up to.

Backstitching the hair on the baby was a challenge, but it paid off, she looks so cute!!

I will be happy when I have finished his pattern though, I am itching to start something new. I have always been a fan of the Lansvit fairies which I have two of as my lovely husband bought them for me a few Christmas's ago now. He gave me....
I hope the year ahead brings everyone happiness, good health, love, peace and of course lots of stitching time.
As usual it's been a few months since I last posted. I have good intentions of being a bit more regular with my posting but it usually comes down to the fact of lack of time for me at the moment. It doesn't mean I haven't been stitching though. Maybe 2015 will be a better year for me with my posting.
Today is a rainy day here in Melbourne, my baby girl is asleep and my toddler keeping busy so I have a chance to actually post photos of my progress.
This is where I am up to on my current baby sampler. I am happy to say I have finished all the cross stitches, I am now just up to working on the backstitching as you can see and then I will be up to the birth details.

I am still in love with this pattern, and I am very happy with it. I was aiming to finish it before my daughter's first birthday in December but unfortunately that didn't happen. A few things happened in my family and it's also been a busy last few months so I didn't get as much stitching done as I would have liked. But at least now I can see an end in sight which makes it more exciting to knowing I can have another start very soon. A new start is always fun!
I also have two other stitching gadgets to show you that my good friend Gayle gave me a few months ago. She bought me a needle minder which I have never had before. Now I don't know how I lived without it of course haha.

She said she had to buy it for me after she saw the print. Hence my blog name, haha! Every now and then I do find myself putting the needle in my mouth when changing threads and have to slap my hand to remind myself to use my needle minder. Haha.
She also very generously bought me this gorgeous scissor fob which I love and is very me. Lots of sparkle and cupcakes. She knows me well. I have 3 fobs now, these two stay on my scissors generally but I can start to swap them around with different projects.

Anyway that's all I have to share today. I will definitely post when I finish my baby sampler.

Happy Stitching xxBelindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00319719927608461920noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1294467066545287889.post-75199771595253975622014-09-25T16:51:00.001+10:002014-09-25T16:51:09.419+10:00S is for Spring! And September! I can't believe it's been four months since I last posted. Well I take that back, I can believe it really because time flies, this year has flown. We are now in the first month of Spring and we have had some really lovely shiny warm days, but also some cold ones! The flowers are out and look beautiful. The girls and I have had lovely afternoons at the park sitting on a picnic blanket enjoying the sun.
It's definetly been a busy year with my two girls, Tabitha is a very busy 3 year old learning new things all the time, Violet is 9 months old now, crawling around while I watch her like a hawk. She is such a busy little girl exploring her surroundings and new tastes and textures.
I've been stitching which has been really nice and relaxing for me. I've made progress on Violet's baby sampler, it's actually quite big but it's getting there and I have been enjoying it.

As you can see I've moved upwards on the pattern and am now onto stitching the Mother's hair. This is the piece rolled out from the bottom to show what I've stitched so far.

I hope to have this finished before Violet's first birthday! I plan on taking it away on a mini holiday we have coming up in November. I do love this piece and can't wait to have it finished. I've been keeping up with my blog reading every now and then and I hope all my readers are keeping well. Until next time,

It is now Autumn here and the leaves that are falling on the ground are just stunning. I love all the colours I am seeing on the ground, beautiful browns, oranges, yellows, reds, greens. Autumn really is a beautiful season and seeing Tabitha playing in the leaves and throwing them in the air makes me smile. This week we've had an unusually warm week. It's been creeping up in the low 20's and the sun has been shining. I've been getting quite a bit of washing dry on the line, which has been a nice change of not having to put the clothes out on the clothes horse in front of our heater to dry. I've been walking a fair bit lately especially this week I've been trying to get out for a good hour and I've been having to walk in a singlet it's been that warm. It really feels like Spring/Summer here at the moment. I know I must enjoy it now though as it will come to an end before I know it.
It's been almost four months since I last posted on my blog but I have been keeping up with my friends blogs and I have been stitching!! Oh it's been so nice to stitch again. Violet is five months this coming Monday and has been establishing more of a routine of late so I have been sitting down of an evening with a cup of tea, a good show and my stitching. It's been very therapeutic after a long day looking after my two girls. I have made progress on Violet's birth sampler which has been really nice watching it come together. It is going to take me awhile to complete but that's ok. It's quite a big pattern. Without further ado, here it is.

I love the colours in the fabric, so pretty and girlie which is just right for Violet. I am currently stitching the teddy bear which is hanging over the Mother's shoulder, it's lots of fun to stitch. I really love this pattern, there's something about the love you can see between the Mother and the daughter which is so special. Talking about the love between Mother and child, we celebrated Mother's day on Sunday which was really lovely having my two girls by my side. We had quite a relaxing day, just stayed home most of the day relaxing which is what I wanted. The girls, Adrian and I went out for a nice coffee and lunch and then Adrian cooked me a beautiful two course meal (we already dessert prepared) when the girls went to bed so I could sit there and have a glass of wine and relax. It was so lovely and very thoughtful of him. I am a very lucky wife/Mother indeed to have such a loving family.
I hope my next post isn't too long away next time. Until then..

I know I am a bit late with my new year greetings but my time has been limited just of late so I haven't had time to blog or comment on blogs. I have been able to read some entries here and there but not many.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and new year. We certainly did, having Violet celebrate her first Christmas with us and our families was so wonderful and exciting. Both the girls were very spoilt. Santa did deliver. :-)
I just wanted to thank you all for your lovely comments on my last post about the birth of our beautiful Violet, sorry I've not had time to reply to you. Your comments did make me smile. Violet is 6 weeks old now, she's smiling and growing, very healthy. Tabitha is loving being a big sister! It is very busy in our household at the moment so I've not had any time to do stitching but I have been buying some! Haha. :-) Actually that's a lie, I did finish off Humphrey's corner but I had only a small amount to finish. Hopefully when things settle down and we establish more of a routine, I will be able to sit down and start stitching the recent kit I bought.

I did finish off my humphrey's corner kit that I was working on prior to having Violet. I found some time one afternoon when the girls were napping at the same time. I only had a little bit of backstitch to do and some french knots. Here it is here.

I really love how this one turned out. It is so sweet and whimsical, I love how the backstitch has bought out the picture and it's a bit messy but at the same time it defines the two elephants so well. I mentioned that I will attempt an ornament out of this one which will be my first one. I am still planning on doing that when I have more time and can dust off my sewing machine.

When I started looking for baby samplers, I fell in love with a kit called 'baby hugs' by design works many many months ago. And when I fell pregnant I knew immediately that if I were to have a girl this is the kit I would stitch without a doubt. So, I obviously had a baby girl and this kit was purchased just this past week. It isn't actually a birth sampler as you can tell, but there is so much room to stitch Violet's birth details in that it will be fine.

When I was at the last craft show I went to the sew it all stand and looked through their beautiful dyed fabrics and took notes of the colours I liked if I were to have a baby girl or boy. And then I could match it with my chosen birth sampler. I noted that if I were to have a girl I would buy a beautiful dyed 28 count evenweave called 'frangipani' and I did just that last week too to go with my baby hugs. It is so beautiful! A gorgeous tone of baby pinks and hints of yellow. I think it is going to work so well together. I tried to take a photo so you could see the colours, but it probably doesn't do it any justice. Here are the thread colours the kit is made up of. All very delicious! I am very happy with my choice.

I can't wait to get started on this sampler for Violet, I am not sure when that will be, but I look forward to it all the same.

That is all I have to report at the moment. I hope all my readers are well and happy and that you are all safe in your part of the world. And keeping cool or warm! We are having very hot weather here in Melbourne at the moment so we have been indoors alot with the air conditioning on. It has been around the high 30's and low 40's which is just WAY too hot do even do anything. You can't even breathe when you go outside. Isn't it funny when it's Winter and cold people (well I know I do) dream of nice hot summer weather and then when it's here we complain at times! It doesn't make sense really. I only complain on really hot days though, otherwise I do love the sun on my face and enjoying the long evenings, beach days, icecreams and summer bbq's.

It is a very busy time of year for me, as I know it will be for most of you too. Our second baby is due next Thursday and I have been busy getting organised buying and wrapping presents for Christmas and a few birthdays here and there so I don't run out of time.
It is such a wonderful time of year though, so much Christmas cheer and excitement. I am pretty tired now though and ready to have and meet our baby. Tabitha is ready to be a big sister. :-)
My giveaway ended at midnight yesterday and I had Tabitha draw a name out of a bowl to determine the winner today. Thank you to all who entered and to those too that just wanted to answer my questions without entering the giveaway. I enjoyed reading all your answers, and they made me smile.
Hello to all my blogging friends and a friendly welcome to all my new followers,

After just enjoying a hot coffee and reading a magazine in the sunshine, I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine like I am here today, as there has not been a whole lot of it lately. November in Melbourne Australia this year has been a very weird, wet and cold month. Normally it's warming up and the sun shines most days, but even though we've experienced nicer days this week, last week was cold, wet and rainy. Summer starts next month so hopefully December is brighter!

Here I was saying in my last post that I'd be back in a few days time to announce my giveaway for gaining 100 followers. It turns out, it's almost one month later and I now have 104 followers! My apologies, my intentions are always there, but sometimes things happen in life and blogging can be put on the back burner for awhile. I didn't realise how long it had been though. But not to worry, I have become organised lately with getting Christmas presents and a few birthday presents out of the way (I'm not normally this organised but with a new bub on the way I have to be) and getting this giveaway together also was a priority.

First I want to show you my progress on my Humphrey's corner pattern which I am really enjoying stitching. It is coming together quickly and I am loving the gorgeous colours through it. Soon I will start on the half stitches and back stitch.

Now onto the giveaway...
Firstly I want to thank my readers for sticking by my blog and commenting on my posts, they mean alot. After gaining 100 followers I always wanted to thank you by putting together a little giveaway. Since I live on the other side of the world to most of my blogging friends (Australia is so far away :-)) I can't afford to put a big giveaway together because postage costs to overseas are very high here. But I think a small giveaway is still nice and it's about quality not quantity right?
This is what I am offering in my giveaway. A never been opened Humphrey's corner cross stitch kit called 'for you'. Finished size 12x12cm, contains 16 count cream aida, Anchor stranded cotton threads, chart, full instructions and a needle. I know, I know Humphrey's corner is my favourite character but I have so many already and I am happy to share the love with someone else who might like to stitch him. A pack of various pink ribbon to use for whatever you like, maybe finishing ornaments? two packs of never been used Madeira silk threads in pink and gold and a caramel chocolate filled caramello koala bear. I thought that might excite some of my overseas friends since it is a koala bear chocolate, and due to the fact that they are delicious!! One can never resist chocolate...well I know I can't.

Here are the rules:

1. Giveaway is open to all of my readers, local, interstate and overseas.
2. To enter into my giveaway you must be an existing follower of mine or new followers are welcome too.
3. If you would like your name put into the draw once, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and answer a few simple questions. How were you first introduced to cross stitching? what is it about cross stitching that you love so much? and where is the weirdest place you have ever taken your cross stitch and stitched before?
If you would like your name entered into the draw twice, you need to comment as above and announce on your blog that I am having a giveaway and link my blog name on your blog.
Remember to let me know in your comment which option you have chosen so I know how many times to enter your name.
That is all pretty simple!
Giveaway is open from now until midnight, Monday the 9th of December 2013, Australian Eastern daylight savings time. Winner will be announced on Tuesday the 10th of December 2013.

Good luck to everyone who enters!!

Until next time,
Hello to all my blogging friends,

thank you so much for your lovely comments on my last post about my gorjuss girl, they make me happy! I hope you all had a nice weekend and found some stitchy time for yourself.

For some odd reason I got this idea into my head that instead of starting a new pattern after I finished gorjuss, I could wait a few months until my baby arrives and then start a baby sampler for him/her. Crazy right? I don't know where my head was at, because after a few nights of having nothing to stitch, I started missing it and my hands were itching to start a new pattern (hence my blogs name). So, off I went out into our garage one night and looked through my tub of stitchy stash and pulled out a small kit, that won't take me very long. I bought it years ago at a stitchy show and put it aside because at the time I was working on something else.

It's a Anchor kit, Humphrey's corner. I just LOVE Humphrey's corner, it has to be my favourite cross stitch character by far, the characters are just too damn adorable! I've always had a soft spot for Humphrey's corner, and I picked a Humphrey's corner sampler to stitch for Tabitha when I was pregnant with her. I love looking at it every day on her bedroom wall, it's just so precious. It's funny how memories of a certain time come flooding back in to my mind when I look at a cross stitch piece I've done. I can look at a cross stitch and have memories of where I was when I started the piece, how old I was, how I was feeling at the time, what was going on in my life etc etc..cross stitch creates memories, and that's what I love about looking back on my pieces, and I guess what I was referring to in my last post.

I love this new piece I've started because the two elephant girls are just too cute whispering in each other's ears. They are dressed so sweetly too. I've always loved the Humphrey's corner cross stitch charts in the way the backstitch is charted too. I find it messy and never straightforward, and I think it suits it's whimsical style to a tea.

So here is my new start, obviously not much to see as yet.

It is so nice having something to stitch again! How could I have possibly thought I could get by another few months without stitching anything??
I've also decided to challenge myself after I finish this one and make it into a little ornament instead of framing it. I've made a few cushions here and there but never an ornament, and I am always inspired by the beautiful ornaments my friends on my cross stitch blogs I follow do, so I've wanted to give it a go myself. So wish me luck, when it is finished!

I've also come across a beautiful designer called Svitlana Glushchenko recently. Her illustrations are just so magical and beautiful and I can't wait to get my hands on her little girl fairy characters. Her illustrations have been turned into cross stitch and I've fallen in love with them! She is so talented. I have found a website where you can buy her kits in the UK. www.justartstitch.co.uk I will be sure to put these three girls on my Christmas wish list. What do you think? aren't they gorgeous?
Only a stitcher would know, you can never have too much stash right?

I know in my last post I mentioned I would be having a giveaway, and don't worry I've not forgotten! I am just in the process of putting it together still. I will be back in a few days posting about it.

Before I leave, tell me, do you ever look at one of your cross stitch pieces and have memories flooding back in at where you were in that time in your life when you were stitching it and what you were doing? who was in your life at that time? I would love to know....

Until my next post,

Happy Stitching xo

I couldn't believe my eyes when one morning I woke up and noticed I now have 101 followers! I was really blown away because at times I wonder if my blog is really all that interesting, and I am not even sure people read my blog much anymore. I am not the sort of stitcher who has many projects on the go at once so I seem to always be showing you my updates from my current project all the time, and I often think that probably gets a bit boring for some. That's why I don't post all that often until there are some major developments that can be seen. Maybe one day I will have more time when I can start a few projects at once and really make good progress on them. It really makes my day when I see that people have left comments on my blog, it makes me smile when I know someone has taken the time to read my post and feel like leaving a comment for me. So to those that do, thank you! I also know that life can get busy ( I have a very busy toddler and another on the way) so believe me I do know, and it's not always time efficient to leave comments on every single person's blog even though you may enjoy reading it. That has been me many times! When I can I do try and leave a comment though. It has also been lovely building up blogging friendships with you all and seeing what else is going on in your lives. Your stitching and creativity inspires me every day! It also makes me want so many more patterns than I normally would if I wasn't introduced to the blogging world, since cross stitching shops are few and far between where I live, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, haha! I vote for good. You can never have too many kits or patterns!

I find so much joy and inspiration in reading my friends blogs. Stitching brings me happiness and a calmness to my life. Sitting down to stitch with a cup of tea and just me being in my own little world is a time in my day when I know I am truly relaxing and out to other worries or thoughts that would normally enter my head. It has also helped me get through some tough times in my life, and I can't imagine a life without stitching in it. I know I will always cross stitch, and I often see myself as a Grandmother myself stitching for my children and grandchildren one day. Even though it can be days until I get to do some sometimes, I do know that it is just sitting there waiting for me, and that I will do some eventually.

So to my 101 followers I will be having a giveaway! I promised that I would when I reached 100 followers and I do keep to my promises. I will just have to get organised and post it up on my blog when I can. How exciting! My first giveaway.

Now onto the stitching, I finished my gorjuss girl last night, yay! Don't you think she is just gorjuss? I do. Aside from enjoying the stitching part of her I also enjoyed the little extras the kit came with, the white beads on her dress, the ribbons in her hair, the cute little heart button that sits on the top of the J in gorjuss and even though I struggled a bit with the ropes on the swing at the start (sometimes instructions can be confusing until you read them over a few times) I thought they came together at the end.
So without further ado, here she is happily enjoying a swing with her precious cat.

The kit is by Bothy threads, stitched on blue 14 count Zweigart aida, Madeira standed cotton and DMC light effects threads.
Spring is here!

But you wouldn't really know it at the moment. Today is very grey and cold outside, I have the heater on like it's Winter time. The only giveaway is the lovely flowers and blooms you see outside. Oh and the hayfever I have been getting! It likes to attack me at this time of year.

Spring always brings out happiness in people. The days are getting warmer and longer and everything outside just looks fresh, colourful and inviting. I feel like people hibernate during Winter and then come out from their houses when they see some sun.

In the evenings I have been busy stitching away on gorjuss and I have nearly finished cross stitching her, which will then bring me to backstitching. I've really enjoyed stitching this little girl and her cat, she's been such an easy stitch and I love the colours. I haven't worked on aida for quite some time too so that's also been a nice change. I am looking forward to stitching her face, I need her personality to come to life.

I've decided gorjuss is going to go into my daughter's room once finished and framed. I think she will really enjoy looking at another little girl on her wall.

I've stopped looking for a birth sampler. I've decided to wait to see the sex of the baby this time around and then choose for myself. We are expecting our second baby in December which is very exciting! And even though I am generally an organised person, I've decided to wait and see what takes my attention when the baby is here. It might take me longer to stitch his/her sampler but that's ok, no hurry.

Just a few weeks ago, I inherited my Nana's old embroidery she had been working on before she died. This is my Nana on my Dad's side. She died when I was young, only in primary school. I think I was about eight or nine. She was a beautiful lady, a very tall (apparently that's where I got my height from) slim lady who took pride in looking beautifully dressed all the time and wore bright lipstick. I have fond memories of her before she unfortunately became sick. She was very talented too. She loved to knit and do embroidery. I think knitting was her favourite though as she knitted my sisters and I lots of beautiful toys, and I remember her knitting more than doing embroidery.

Before she died she was working on embroidering a tablecloth that has a stamped image of flowers in the four corners on it. Although it isn't cross stitch as such, it is a different style that I've never done before, but Mum and Dad thought because I am the stitcher in our family (along with my sister) that they would give one to me. I said to my parents that hopefully one day I might get to finish it and use the tablecloth myself. That would be very special and dear to me.

This is the table cloth.

And what makes it so sentimental, is the needle she had sitting in the side after she had finished off her last stitches. Just like me!

Hopefully one day I can make her proud by finishing it for her and for my family to enjoy in years to come. I hope the cross stitch I do will get passed down and loved by family also one day.

What a fun day it was at the craft show yesterday! I went along with my friend Gayle who is an avid stitcher and her friend Fiona who also likes scrapbooking like me. Gayle drove in, and we arrived at the fair about 10:40am, it was pretty packed when we got there, but we bustled our way though the crowds. We went to all the stitching stalls, the first one we came across was stitch about which is wonderful every year. I always remember the same lady who is there every year, she is so helpful and doesn't miss a beat. What a great sales lady she is. I was initially looking for a baby sampler but unfortunately I didn't really come across one I loved. I did "like one" but I was unsure whether to make the purchase because it wasn't a baby sampler itself, it was more of a babies alphabet sampler, which didn't have much room for the stitching of babies name, birth details etc...I did think about getting it (drove the girls a bit crazy with me being indecisive, haha) but then I decided against it in the end, for two reasons. One was it didn't jump out at me, and secondly I did LOVE a baby girls sampler that I saw, but of course the stitching will have to wait until the sex of the baby is revealed. :-)

Other than looking for a baby sampler I just kept my eye out for any kits or charts that I liked. And I did find one by bothy threads from the 'Gorjuss' range. I've always loved the character drawings of the gorjuss range and my favourite especially was the little girl on the swing with a cat on her lap. And luckily I came across it and bought it straight away. I think it's the vibrant colours on the backdrop of blue aida that I like. I couldn't help myself last night, since I had finished my wedding sampler, my hands were itching to start something new and this came just in good time. So I sat down to watch a movie last night and started my new kit. I am loving the simplicity of stitching on aida again, it's been years since I've stitched on aida. It is so easy and I find I don't have to be as mindful with my counting. I will probably make a mistake now that I've said that! I probably stayed up too late stitching the night away, but I was enjoying myself. This is what I've done so far..

After we looked up and down a few aisles we stopped for a coffee break and a chat. We then looked around some more and found a few more stitchy stalls, and I had a look in a few of the scrapbooking stalls also where I purchased some great alphabet stickers on sale and a pretty pack of flowers. We then stopped for lunch and kept going after that. At the end of the day after we looked through the quilt show, we sat down again and Gayle after making a list of kits/charts she wanted along the way, worked out what she did and didn't want. Or more like, what she could and couldn't afford in her budget. :-) We went back to the stalls Gayle wanted to makes purchases from and then we headed off home again. I think we spent about 6 hours there all up.
It was such a fun day, and even though the show was a bit chaotic it was also very relaxing to have the day to ourselves, chatting about our hobbies and spending time with each other which is something we don't do too often. I will keep looking for a baby sampler, but in the mean time I have a cute little girl to stitch for my daughters room.
I am very happy with how it's turned out and I am loving the soft pastels on the natural coloured linen. And even though I don't mind doing backstitch, with this pattern there was no backstitch at all! Made my completing the pattern a little easier. :-) Stitched on 32 count natural linen with DMC threads. The pattern is called 'Les Maries' and the designer is La Sylphide Toquee. As you might gather it is a French pattern as the whole pattern is written in French. (thank goodness for Language translators) This pattern holds many special memories for me as I purchased in Paris when my husband and I were on our European honeymoon. Once it is framed, it will always bring back lovely memories when I look at it.
I did make a few minor changes to the brides hair and eyes, and the grooms eyes. As I've mentioned before originally the brides hair and eyes were brown, and the grooms eyes were brown. I decided to stitch the brides hair in light yellow to make it look like my blonde hair, and I gave her blue eyes like mine. I also stitched the eyes on the groom green to match my husbands. :-)
I've not yet ironed my piece so ignore the crease marks from my q-snaps.

This weekend my girlfriend Gayle and I are going to the craft and quilt fair together, I am so excited!!!! I can't wait. It will be so nice to have a day together, chatting over coffee about stitching and looking at all the stalls. I am hoping there I will come across my next project which will be a baby sampler. If not, it doesn't matter, it will be nice just having a day out with Gayle.
Sometimes I just forget to blog about it and then when I do remember I don't have the time to do it etc..I have been keeping up with my blog reading though.
It is perfect cross stitching weather at the moment, we are now in Winter and the nights are cold. The days are too but I am normally out and about rugged up. I celebrated my birthday last week, the 6th of June. I was spoilt and was given lots of hobby goodies by my family. June is a nice time to have a birthday and sit inside creating things. I've been swapping between cross stitch and scrapbooking, my hobbies that make me happy.
I have stitched quite a bit on my wedding sampler. For some reason I always thought the writing I would be stitching one day would be daunting and take lots of time, but surprisingly I have enjoyed stitching the writing and it's moving along fairly fast. Here is where I am up to.

If I keep up with the speed I am going with this one I think I could have it finished in no time.

I also wanted to share with you another creation. My nephew turned two last week and he is madly obsessed with cars (cars, and the character from the cars movie) so since I am the baker in the family, I decided on baking this cake. I was really happy with how it turned out, he thought it was pretty great too.
He now has a nice pair of shiny shoes. All I have to do on him now is finish stitching his waistcoat. His leg looks a little funny at the moment but it will look better when I've finished his waistcoat.

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates, I hope the Easter bunny brings you lots of yummy chocolate eggs! I know he will be visiting my house and we will be doing an Easter egg hunt with my daughter in the morning. I really love Easter, the joy and happiness in finding a beautiful foil wrapped egg and the smile on a child's face. I also look forward to a hot Easter lunch I will be sharing with my family tomorrow at my Mother and Father's house. I also don't mind sitting down with a hot cup of coffee and enjoying a hot cross bun. My obsession at the moment is mocha hot cross buns, so delicious!

I've completed quite a lot on my cross stitch which I want to show you. Last post it was in the middle of the makings of a groom, now my groom has one half of his body from his middle up to the top of his well, top hat!

I changed his eyes from brown to green to match my husbands just like I changed my brides eyes from brown to blue and her hair from brown to blonde to match mine.
I am loving seeing them both come to life. I've just poured myself a glass of wine and will be sitting down shortly to stitch some more.
I hope you all find time to stitch this long Easter break.
My bride is now complete, yay! So naturally I've started cross stitching the groom, so you can see his arm in the making. The good and odd thing about this pattern is there is no backstitch. I am one of those odd people who enjoy backstitching as I find it really makes a pattern pop and completes a picture, but funnily enough this pattern looks fine without the backstitch. Maybe because it's a bit rustic looking..not sure, but it won't take me as much time as a pattern normally would at least.
So make yourself a cuppa if you would like to stay with me. And a biscuit of course! :-)

On Saturday the 16th of February, my girlfriend Gayle and I went away for the day on a stitchy picnic. We'd been meaning to do this for quite sometime but for one reason or another it seemed to never happen. But this time we were in luck with dates and the weather so off we went! We went to a beautiful spot up in the mount Dandenong ranges (a place we both adore) and found a little picnic spot called 'one tree hill'. We actually found it by chance, we were not meaning to find it as originally we were on our way to another picnic spot we had found on our map but when we got there it wasn't what we expected and not very practical. It wasn't at all cozy, only wooden benches and tables and dirt grounds which I am sure would have been the home of many bull ants.
So as we were deciding where to go I had remembered driving past the sign of this little picnic area and we decided to check it out. And of course it was just perfect! Isn't that lovely when you are not expecting something and then when you come across it it is all perfect?
So after a bit of a hike up the hill we plonked ourselves down under some shady trees and laid out our picnic blanket and snacks and got cozy with our stitching. Gayle was like the picnic queen so she had all that we needed really (she has had many picnics) including a thermos, tea bags, sugar and mugs. So she made us a lovely cup of tea and we sat there eating shortbread creams talking about life really. We don't see each other all that much so when we do we have a lot to catch up on. After some lunch of salad and ham wraps we got done to stitching and talking. After awhile we had another break and had another cup of tea and some of Gayle's beautiful slice she baked. That one was a real winner. Then we stitched some more. Before we knew it, it was time to pack up. Time goes fast when you're having fun.
I just love it up there in the ranges, so peaceful and relaxing. It really was the perfect spot for us and our stitching. We both had a really good time so we have decided we are going to make it a regular thing every few months. And that is now our picnic spot!!

This is me stitching away under the beautiful trees.

And this is Gayle

And this next photo made our day more memorable. A little ant decided to visit me and my stitching. I think he thought I needed help with my thread. But in turn somehow he got stuck on my thread, it almost looked like I threaded him though my needle, I don't know how and that is impossible anyway, but he was stuck there for ages! We took a good 15 minutes trying to rescue him without ruining my stitching at the same time. Gayle and I both had a go at trying to get him off but we couldn't do it without cutting my thread first. Gayle eventually was able to get him off and he crawled away and I had to start another thread! Here is our friend the ant.

Since that weekend I've been able to stitch of a night and have made quite a bit of progress on my brides dress. This is where she is at, at the moment.

Sorry about the quality, I did take a quick snapshot on my phone. Her dress is almost complete. I've nearly used a whole skein of 3856 on her dress! And I will have to buy another skein to complete the rest of it.

On Sunday the 24th of February I went into the city with my girlfriend Melissa to a craft market called Bend and Snap which was in little Lonsdale street in the city. It is a craft market which is on once a month and even though it is quite small it has some great crafters setting up stalls with all sorts of creations.
We caught the train in together in the morning and found the market straight away. After looking around for a bit I bought a beautiful heart necklace which was made by a lovely polish girl who we got talking to. I am not normally a jewellery person, as it doesn't excite me that much and I hardly wear it. But I saw this gorgeous heart necklace and it caught my eye straight away, and after I tried it on it was mine. I also bought a children's hair clip for my daughter from another lady who had a stall called Louie & the fox she was a gorgeous girl, so nice to talk to.
We were both getting hungry by this stage so we found a nice place down an alley way called 'era' and had some lunch. We were tucked away outside but could watch the passers by. We had a nice chat and laughs.
After lunch Melissa took me to a gallery called 'outré gallery' and we had a look around at some beautiful artwork. I was blown away by some pieces. It was my first time being in there and was very inspiring and interesting. Melissa also wanted to go back to the market and take another look at a teddy fox she had her eye on. A little bunny rabbit by the same crafter also caught my eye so I wanted to take another look at it too. So we went back to the market and Melissa bought the fox she wanted and I bought the bunny rabbit for my daughter. They are both so cute! The creatures are by a lovely lady and this is her blog the creature workshop she has some beautiful handmade creations.
We both needed another sit down after much walking so I spotted a chocolate café called 'Max Brenner' and we went inside and shared a beautiful warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top! Oh wow! so delicious. This is a photo of our brownie and our new friends.
We had a wonderful time chatting away in there, dreaming of ideas and just enjoying a day out together. After that it was time to head back home on the train. We would both really like to explore more markets and go to bend and snap more often.

I am now at the end of a long blog entry, but I had so much fun writing about my adventures.
After much counting I found the mistake and had a bit of unpicking to do, not too much at least as the mistake was made very recently.
So, I've been stitching most nights and have made some progress on my pretty bride. Her dress is coming together but is going to take me awhile just like having a bridal dress made really.
Here she is at the moment.

Her dress looks to me like a traditional bridal dress, reminds me a bit of one of those dolls on a little girls birthday cake. The one with the marshmallows making up the dress and the doll sits in the middle.
As well as doing my hobbies and writing my blog, I always love reading fellow people's blogs too and seeing what everyone is up to and getting inspired by all the creativity. I follow mainly cross stitch blogs but also blogs about scrapbooking, bear making and various other creative crafts (doll making, illustrating etc..) My mind goes into overdrive sometimes and I would love to sit down and be a woman of many crafts as I really do get inspired by everyone. Like most would agree, we need extra days in the week and extra hours in a day.
I wanted to mention a wonderful give away which is happening over at www.bearbits.blogspot.com.au a beautiful handmade valentines day bear is about to be jetted off to a new owner if anyone is interested in going into the draw, I know I will be. I can't resist a teddy bear.
And that reminds me, valentine's day is in two days time. I love valentine's day, I have always looked forward to it. Love is in the air that day, I find it very special and look forward to a date with my husband.

I was stitching away happily tonight watching a movie and having a nice cup of tea and some biscuits, a night just to myself. And just when I thought I was making progress, something didn't connect in my stitching. It turns out the frogs had just rang my door bell and I have made a big stuff up somewhere along the way in my stitching. GRRRR so annoyed! It totally messed up my stitching mojo. I can't concentrate enough to find out where I will be needing to frog, that will have to be tomorrow when I have a less tired head. :-)
This afternoon I managed to do a little more on my bride, it felt good to pick up needle and thread again.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, even though I've been absent for most of the year. Hoping 2013 is different!!Belindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00319719927608461920noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1294467066545287889.post-36308091172927006922012-12-29T22:23:00.002+11:002012-12-29T22:23:23.864+11:00Stitching and moviesI spent last night stitching away and watching two movies. One was 'Ruby Sparks' which I loved. It was about an author who dreams up his dream girl and writes about her and she comes to life. It was a really fun story with a quirky ending. I couldn't put my needle down after that movie so I watched a three part mini series called ' Mildred Pierce' which I also loved. It is based in the 1930's which is an era I am fascinated by. Two wonderful actors too, Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce. I recommend both highly.
This is how far I got in my stitching.

I am loving her crazy wavy hair which reminds me of my own hair. I've always dreamed of having beautiful thick locks, but unfortunately I was not born that way, mine is more wavy, thin and flyaway. You always want what you can't have though. Although I did have better hair as a teenager, it was long about waist length and was more of it. It changed when my hormones did! I am also loving the blonde colour I chose in my stitching to suit my own. So stitching away and watching two movies put me to bed at about 12:30pm! It was worth it though. Especially when my husband let me sleep in in the morning while he tended to our baby girl.
I accidently doubled up on a few colours because I forgot to check first if I had them first but that's ok, a double up doesn't hurt and won't go to waste. So of course I couldn't wait to get started, so when my little girl went down for her nap, out came the stitching. This is a bit of a floss toss with a small start too. The colours have an Autumn feel to them I think. Photo isn't great quality because it was taken outside and I couldn't see properly with the 30 degree sun glaring down at me!!

I never ever make changes to my patterns except I've decided to do a change with this one. The bride has brown hair in the pattern and because I have blonde hair I have decided to swap colour 434 (brown) with 768 (blonde). :-)
It feels so good to start a new pattern again, I've not had that feeling for a long time as it's been awhile since I started a new pattern. I am looking forward to seeing how this one comes together.

I just want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I look forward to sharing my stitching blog with you next year (hopefully without the absence). And seeing all your beautiful work too.

Happy stitching xx
